Meet Dutchess Lodge
Meet Dutchess Lodge
WELCOME
Born in 1981 and officially sanctioned in 1983, Dutchess Lodge is now embarking on its 22nd year. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month, April through November, at the Masonic Temple on Myers Corners Road in Wappingers Falls.
Besides business meetings at the Lodge Hall, we have many fun filled events. This includes our annual 'Bananas Comedy Club Nite Out,' as well as dining out at a variety of restaurants. We have an occasional theater visit, and winery visits sneak in every once in a while, and Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods have set a few hearts a pumpin.'
OUR CHARTER
Ted's anti-drug program has been awarded more proclamations than the King of Siam has wives.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Our major focus through the years has been in support of our community. The "DAAPTE" Program, Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Through Education, was an essay and poster program for Junior and Senior High School students while a special coloring book with an anti-drug theme was utilized at the elementary school level.
The "Pop Your Top For Ronald McDonald House" program spread throughout Dutchess County like wildfire. Eight school districts participated, including Arlington, Wappingers,
Spackenkill and Hyde Park. The districts cooperated by having collection boxes in all their schools. Other collection points included supermarkets and everybody got into the "Pop Your Top" mood. Over 1700 lbs. of pop-tops were collected in a three year period and considering that it took 1250 pop-tops to make up 1 lb., that's a lot of pop-tops.
Then the Entertainment Co. bought out Dine-A-Mate. At the same time, a stroke of good luck got us an entry into the Poughkeepsie Galleria. A sales table was made available to us, from the Columbus Day weekend through Christmas eve. Lots of books have been sold, and a lot of money earned for charity.
FUND RAISING
Approximately 12 years ago, the era of the discount dining books, 'Entertainment' and 'Dine-A-Mate', began with individual sales by the Lodge Brothers. Then we secured selling space in the entrance to the South Hills Mall Kmart. Sales grew! When Kmart was no longer available to us, Media Play stepped in. For the next few years they gave us an interior location from which to work and sales held.

The funds raised through the sale of the Entertainment book are distributed to both Pythian charities and to local and national organizations. Some of the organizations that have received donations include the Foundation for Vassar Brothers Medical Center, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Hudson Valley, the Town of Poughkeepsie K-9 Foundation, Poughkeepsie Children's Home, the Literacy Volunteers of America, the DC Coalition for the Homeless, the DC Association for Senior Citizens, the YMCA, the YWCA, the Jewish Community Center, the DC Community Action Agency, Hospice, Inc., Man2Man, Dutchess Outreach, the American Heart Association, the Wappingers Senior Fund, Senior Club 60 Town of Poughkeepsie, Knights on Wheels, Pythian Pacemake Fund, and the Pythian Humanitarian Fund. This is not a complete listing, by any means.
